This year we’re excited to bring our very own Velo Cafe. Hosted by local cycling enthusiast, mechanic & coach Kate Linsley.
Kate and her friends in cycling are hosting a range of activities across the weekend with the goal to inspire you and give you the skills you need to take cycling home with you. Read more about Kates story below:
Cycling has been an interesting journey for me and a journey is exactly where it started. I first fell in love with two wheels while I was working in an extremely high pressured finance environment in the City of London. The hours were long & relentless and the commute was some what similar until I decide to change things up and start riding to work. This was significant…..I went from my commute being just another exhausting part of my work day to my commute becoming my happy time!!! The moment I left the office on my bike I was happy.. I’d ride the streets with a big smile on my face and my love for cycling had begun.
My love evolved from the daily commute and I’d find myself jumping on a train Saturday morning with my bike, escaping the city and exploring the many routes I had access to across the South Downes, the Chilterns, I quickly learnt what a fabulous way it was to explore and so I went on to take my adventures further and longer until next I knew it was 12 months later and I was with my bike at the starting checkpoint of “The Continental Divide Trial”. The longest off road mapped route in the world, covering 2,700 miles from Canada to Mexico through the Rocky mountains.
Cycle touring is a real passion of mine however I also have a competitive streak and stumbled into the crazy sport of Triathlon where I have competed all over the world in all distances including the extreme endurance event Ironman (3.9km Swim, 180km Bike, Marathon to finish). It is in this sport that I have been able to follow my passion further and establish a successful business doing something I love. I founded Race Force in 2012. We create “Race Tours” to all the major Triathlon events across Europe and have a team of mechanics, coaches, sports therapist who travel with our athletes to support them and help them succeed at their race as well as have a jolly good time doing it. We also cater for Corporate cycling groups and you can find us leading out executives from property companies to the marketing teams of creative agencies across The Alps, The Pyrenees or even the good old Yorkshire Dales!
Through my business I have become a qualified bike mechanic & Triathlon coach and regularly coach groups & individuals to achieve their goals and create happier, healthier lives through cycling. I'm really excited to share my knowledge & experience with you all over the weekend. I’ve invited along some of the brands I have worked with before and who’s products I have relied on many times.
We have a fun packed schedule for the weekend including:
I’ll be leading out a ride from the Farm shop daily at 11am. You can bring your own bike or book one of our demo bikes from Stork. We will cover approx 20-30km at a very gentle pace and cover some basic road safety & group riding skills.
Bike Maintenance Workshop.
With my team of mechanics we will be holding twice daily workshops to bust through all the jargon and give you all the info you need to keep your bike in good working order.
Free Servicing all weekend.
Our mechanics will be on hand all weekend to give your bike a good going over. All labour is free and any parts will be at cost prices. We cant promise we can fix everything in our mobile workshop but we’ll at least be able to tell you what the issues maybe so you can have a good conversation with you local bike shop when you get home.
Throughout the weekend we will be showing some of the coolest films in cycling. So if you just need to sit down and relax then check out the board in cafe for screening times.
