The Chester Pride festival is a volunteer-led annual celebration of love and diversity, and a show of support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender+ community (LGBT+). The event has grown each year from an attendance of 2,500 to 10,000 in 2017. As well as a fun event with entertainment and a parade, Pride is an opportunity to raise awareness of the issues that can affect the LGBT+ community and signpost to support including mental health, youth support, domestic abuse, hate crime reporting, substance misuse and much more.
We are excited to welcome the Chester Pride team to The Good Life Experience this year for the first time with their Pride in the Past exhibition. The exhibition looks at LGBT history in Cheshire and surrounding areas from Roman times to present day, and Chester Pride Heritage Coordinator Richard Euston will give a talk on Pride in the Past. There will be children’s activities, including making your own hand waving flag to symbolise love and togetherness, and inclusive story time. Chester Pride will mark their first year at The Good Life Experience by throwing a colourful Pride parade through the festival site. Make sure you bring your drums and whistles to join in the celebration of love and diversity, and head to the Chester Pride tent to make your own flag.
